Mission Mouse - Our Disney Vacation Day 1
"Do you have blankie? No… do you have blankie??
So today we completed our packing and headed out to begin our week-long Disney vacation. We stopped for McDonald’s drive through before heading over to Grandma and Pop-Pop’s house. There we ate breakfast, briefly visited , and then Pop-Pop drove us to the airport. About half-way to the airport, DD asked for blankie (her beloved-lovie blanket). We quickly realized that blankie was not in the back seat where Bob thought it was. Turns out, DD smuggled it into Grandma and Pop-Pop’s house and left it there. Brief mayhem ensued, but DD was quickly bribed into a happy mood with a lollipop. Knowing that lollipop bribery would not get us through the entire vacation, we asked Pop-Pop to FedEx blankie when he got back to his house.
The plane ride was mercifully uneventful. Both kids were freakishly well-behaved. DD was easily entertained, and after a mid-flight potty-break (that was interesting, to say the least) she napped on her daddy.. DS was an ANGEL. He played happily with the toys and books Bob got at the dollar store ahead of time. We had stashed them in my carry-on, and pulled a new toy out each time the kids finished with a toy or got bored.
After a smooth landing, we got our luggage, rental car, and were on our way to "The World." At the precise moment we entered Disney World, DD matter-of-factly stated:
"I wanna go home now."
That was my reality check. I love Disney. I love the surroundings, the magical atmosphere, everything about it. But that was my reminder…I’m here with a five and two year old. Things will not be consistently "magical."
We settled into our room for a bit, then headed over to Downtown Disney for dinner. We had a delicious dinner. I was very impressed with DS. His meal took a little longer because of his food allergy, and he patiently waited. When his meal came, he ate every last bit. We strolled the walkways of the West Side, Pleasure Island, and the Market Place while eating yummy ice cream cones. We took the Riverboat back to the resort - a beautiful ride.
And so the adventure begins!
