Happy Birthday, Mom

I wrote this poem for my mom, Judy, about 10 years ago. I actually had forgotten about the poem until last week! The other day, my mom shared some albums of cards my sisters and I had made for her and Daddy and this poem was on a card among them. This is the kicker…I cried at my own poem! Too funny. So I asked to borrow back the card long enough to record the poem for myself. LOL! I’ll give it back to you when I see you today, Mom! Love ya! Happy Birthday!

I was sitting at the shore one day,
When I saw a daughter and a mother.
They walked swiftly along the water’s edge,
And were talking to one another.

Now this must have been 14 years ago,
But the vision stays in my mind.
The daughter had such love in her eyes,
And the mother seemed so kind.

What mysteries did they speak of,
As they walked along the shore?
Did the mother speak of stories past,
Or what the future held in store?

They knelt down to write in the sand,
And then continued with their walk.
I quickly got out of my chair,
Perhaps some insight into their talk?

I eagerly looked down at what they wrote,
And smiled at what I read.
One simply wrote, “Judy” the other, “Becky”
And that was all it said.
