Happy Endings?

So today we were in Week 14, Day 2 of Interlock. We read the story of Billy the Bean Plant, who was happily growing in the sun until rain clouds gathered over him. The story leaves off with Billy wondering where the sun has gone. Each of my kiddos got a turn to finish the story.

In DS’s story, the sun came up the next day to warm the plant and Billy grew roots to drink up all the rain that had fallen.

In DD’s story, The rain continued, storm clouds gathered, the wind blew, the plant got cold, blew over and died.

Yikes! So much for her happy ending! I was surprised, actually. She usually has a happy ending for everything. But you know, I was pleased that one of them had a less than sunny conclusion to their story. After all, not all stories end happily-ever-after, and she showed me that she absorbed part of her science lesson for the day - when plants get too cold, they die.

In other news, after the demise of Billy Bean, DD happily moved on to her penmanship and put a hurtin’ on her number six worksheet. She loves the “numbers in a jar” sheets from First School.
