My Little Enigma

Tantrum_1

DS, my first born, is a pretty predicable kid. Even in his twos, I could often predict what might set him off, what would make him whine. Distraction and forethought was usually enough to keep him on the right track.  In addition, he was an even-tempered kid. His shifts in mood were gradual.

DD is a whole different story. She can switch moods on a dime. Anywhere, any time. Sometimes all I have to say is, "DD, time to go pick up Buddy at school." And she’ll completely loose it. Then the next day, I’ll say the same thing and she’ll happily skip to the car. At the supermarket, should we be without the coveted car cart, DD’s reaction to riding in a regular cart ranges anywhere from "Okee Dokee, You bet you!" to a screaming fit of fury that lasts for 3 aisles.

It’s been interesting figuring this kid out. Learning what works, what doesn’t. Where DS liked the security of decisions and guidelines being made for him as a toddler, DD needs to (at least think) she is making the decisions herself. She’ll just have to deal with the guidelines being made for her…that won’t be changing anytime soon.

She used the toilet today. Once I left the room and she decided it was her idea.
