Barbecued Beans

This is a delicious BBQ Beans recipe I received from a friend years ago. It’s super easy, but it tastes like you slaved all afternoon. These beans make a great potluck side dish. I’ve made a couple of changes/additions, which I’ve noted in the recipe.

2 – 15 oz cans of pork and beans (any variety – I use 1 big can of Bush’s)
2 – 15 oz cans of kidney beans, drained (I usually use pinto or cannellini beans)
1 – 15 oz cans of butter beans, drained
3 slices of bacon, cut up
1 small sliced onion
1/2 cup dark brown sugar (light brown works just as well)
1 cup ketchup (I actually use 3/4 cup ketchup and 1/4 cup molasses)
1 tbsp. prepared (dry) mustard
1 tbsp. vinegar

Fry onion and bacon. Add brown sugar, ketchup (molasses if you are using it,) mustard, vinegar and boil for 3 minutes. Mix beans and sauce in 2 quart casserole and bake at 350 for 1 hour or put in crock pot on high for 1/2 hour and then low for 2 hours. (I just put them in my Panasonic Rice Cooker on the Slow Cook setting for 2 hours.)
