Crunched Fenders and Sun-Kissed Taters
So I’m driving DS to school today (How many of my stories start out with that sentence? Like, every one?) Anyway, we are about 10 minutes from our house, and the radio turns on inexplicably. Very weird. Then we came to a railroad crossing, and as has happened in the past, the train crossing lights were flashing with no train in sight. We carefully proceeded along with everyone else, only to find a fender bender a few feet ahead in the oncoming lanes. Apparently, as the traffic backed-up at the crossing, someone got their rear smashed. About a mile down the road, we passed by another fender bender. This time it looked like sun glare might have been to blame. Both times, I made an effort not to "rubber-neck" and further tie up traffic by oogling the folks who were in the accident. However, I couldn’t help but think that this was another one of those "weird car ride" kind of days.
After I got home, I called Bob to ask him something unrelated, and he asks:
"Did you get your cell phone messages?"
"No. I think my phone was off, why?"
"Well, did you pass any accidents today on your way to school?"
"YEAH! Two…it was really weird. Why?"
"Did you see YOUR DAD at one of them??"
Holy. Moly. My dad was one of the people in the second accident I passed. I didn’t even see him. Even on the way back from dropping off DS, I noticed that the accident had been cleared off to the side, but I hadn’t noticed my dad. Jeez. He’s fine, by the way. But his car is totalled. I’m still in awe of my not seeing him. Not even a "Gee, that looks like my dad’s car." Nothing.
Weird.
On a funny, completely unrelated note, I made DS little potato smilies for snack today. I left them in a little longer than usual. I pulled them out and flipped them on the plate to make sure they had not burned:
Don’t they look sun-burned? Like the little taters forgot to put sunscreen on their foreheads and cheeks? LOL. This was really funny to me. Not sure why.

LOL about the sun-burned taters – i think those things are just cute
perhaps you were just kind of in a daze about the whole drive that you see things but you don’t see things – you know what I mean – it’s like your eyes don’t make a connection with your brain – it happens to me sometimes – i go somewhere and I get there but I don’t remember snything really about the journey – freaky thing – the brain can play tricks on you!
glad to hear your Dad is OK – that is all that is important!
take care~
