Why oh why…
Did TypePad put this link on their login page? As if I didn’t spend enough time on the computer. Check it out.
Heard from Mom that Dad was still feeling down about the car/accident/etc so DD and I went over after dropping off DS and spent a few hours messing up their house with playdoh, crumbled Ritz crackers and Gram’s clip-on earrings. There. That oughta cheer him up! LOL. Actually, it was nice to see him and give him a big ol’ hug. I’m just glad he’s ok.
Which brings me to my final point of the evening. If your child has a later dismissal time than usual (as DS did today) and it’s less than an hour different, don’t say anything. Last night, for some inane reason, I decided to tell DS I was going to be picking him up 1/2 hour later than usual. He went loco. He has no concept of how long that is. Or at least in this instance, he chose not to know. All he knew was Mom said she was picking him up later at that was Baaaad. Mayhem ensued. Tears. Anguish. All over a 1/2 hour. I tried to explain…"But that’s just the length of one Olie episode, DS…" The wails of my son drowned out all reasoning. You see, My concern rested in the fact that a parent had mentioned that we were supposed to pack lunches for the kids since they were staying later. I didn’t want DS freaking out at school if they told him he was eating lunch there, so I tried to fill him in on the schedule. Wrong, wrong, wrong. So this morning, first thing out of bed, DS asks:
"Am I still staying later?"
"Nah." I reply.
"I’m picking you up just about regular time."
"Oh, ok. Can I have that sandwich you packed for breakfast instead? That way my lunch at school will just be a snack."
And just like that, all is well. And turns out they didn’t even need a lunch packed for them. Had I not said anything, he would have never been the wiser. *insert smacking sound of my palm hitting my forehead*
