So close…and yet…

We almost had our Christmas card portrait of the kids today…we were so close. We tried before we left for Sam and Tania’s yesterday, but that ended in a fight and tears. Today, the kids were happy, even cuddly, but I’m just not sure we’ve captured the right photo yet…I might use the one above. We’ll see.

Later, Mom and Dad came by, joined us for lunch, and watched as we finally finished decorating the tree. Becky T. mentioned on her blog several days ago that Christmas music was her favorite part of the holidays. It got me thinking about one of my favorite aspects of the holidays. Ornaments. Bob and I are both Hallmark ornament junkies. Each year, my mom gets Bob the Star Trek spaceship of the year, then Bob and I get about 3-4 other Hallmark ornaments as well. Our tree is a crazy, sentimental combination of these ornaments, ornaments from my childhood, ornaments from my parent’s tree when they were newly married, several from my grandmother’s tree, and some antique ornaments I’ve picked up at local antique stores. I think it’s so cool that an ornament I made as a kid hangs beside the gingerbread star DS made last year. DS is digging all the light-up, talking spaceships. Plugging those suckers into the lights was a bit of a challenge this year, since some of the new lights we purchased don’t allow you to plug in anything but bulbs. Tomorrow I’ll post some photos of my very favorite ornaments.
