My children are addicted to Rolie Polie Olie. Every morning when DD wakes up, and every time she stretches her eyes open from a nap, her first words are "I wan Olie." We have DVRed quite a few episodes, but even with 20 or so episodes to choose from, Olie is getting a little old.
I used to love Olie. Even before I had kids, I thought it was cute. But now, I know more about Polieville than any human should. For example, did you know Olie’s mom’s name is Paulina? Yup, it’s a lesser known fact that I think they only mention in one episode.
I’m trying to encourage other activity besides Olie, but we are destined to watch at least two episodes a day. For DD, it’s a way to wake up. It’s her equivalent to a cup of coffee…it helps her ease into daily life.
we are, however, all in agreement on our dislike of Screwy. Why do writers insist on inserting an anecdotal ne’er do well in cartoons? We get enough of that in real life. "Why is he so mean, Mommy?" DS asks this all the time. I usually try to be diplomatic. "Oh, Honey. Screwy just hasn’t thought about the feelings of Olie and his friends, has he?" You know…all that teachable moment stuff. But I’m sick of cutting Screwy slack. Just once I’d like to say, "Because he’s a big Poo-Poo head, and his mom and dad stink at parenting."
Ok, enough Olie ramblings. Have a great weekend, and enjoy the Columbus Day Holiday!
