Little Somethings

On our way to Grandma and Pop-Pop’s today, DD was doing her usual chit-chatting in the back seat.

"DS is a little boy."
"Baby Anna Bef is a little girl."

Poor kid. I think she thinks "Baby" is her first name. We’ve been purposely using "little girl" more and trying to use "baby" less when referring to her lately, so she seemed to be trying it out for size this afternoon.  Then she says:

"Daddy is a little daddy."
"Mommy is a little mommy."

Her words were more poignant than she will ever know. This past week of toilet training and patience testing in general has made me acutely aware of what a young, "little" mommy I am. So much trial and error. So much learning yet to do. Some days I feel like I’ve got a handle on it…grabbing the teachable moments, keeping my patience, going the extra mile. Other days, well, not so much.

Then, as we approach Grandma and Pop-Pop’s, we hear this catchy tune from the backseat:

"I love DSaaaayyyy"
"I looooove Daaaadddyyy"
"I loooovvve my moooooMMMyyy…"

So I guess this little mommy and daddy must be doing something right.
